How should I take this medicine?
Champix is a 12-week course to help you to stop smoking, by reducing your cravings for nicotine. It is important to note that Champix does not contain any nicotine at all.
In the first week you will gradually build up the dose you are taking:
- During days 1-3, take 1 x 0.5mg white pill every day.
- During days 4-7, take 2 x 0.5mg white pills every day: one in the morning and one in the evening.
The remaining weeks:
- During weeks 2-12, take 2 x 1mg blue pills every day: one in the morning and one in the evening.
It is important to take Champix in this way.
What does Champix contain?
The active ingredient in Champix is Varenicline Tartrate
The most common side effect of this medication is nausea, vomiting and disturbed vision.
Champix is not suitable for those patients with a history of mental illness, and in particular suicidal thoughts.
Whilst you are taking this medicine if you notice any dark or disturbing thoughts, or friends and family tell you of the same, you must stop this medication immediately and speak to your doctor.
